A Letter to My Struggles…

Through my struggles, I am constantly reminded by the Lord that I am being forged by fire. So, I take on life with a new attitude and a unique perspective … I welcome challenges and struggles. Yes, that’s right! The obstacles in my life are refining me so I am writing a letter…

Dear Struggles,

Today, I face you head-on with fearlessness. I know you are not meant to take me out but to build me up. I know you are here because there is greatness on the inside of me that you have to bring out. You are not my enemy but my coach. You push me beyond my limitations. You push me above my potential. I need you to grow. I need you to be my strongest, my best.

So even though you are painful and uncomfortable and sometimes you make me cry, sometimes you discourage me and sometimes you make me want to call it quits, I realize these are “growing pains” with one purpose in mind: to help me be all that I was created to be.

Struggles, I want to thank you for backing me in a corner, where I had no other choice but to Trust God. Because of you, I have leaned into God deeper. I got to know Him in ways I wouldn’t or couldn’t have without you. I found Him to be a trustworthy God who is always faithful to His word. Because of you, I have found a friend that sticks closer than a brother, quite dependable and constant, a friend who is ALWAYS a present help in my troubles. I have experienced peace beyond my situation and love without conditions; with no strings attached. Struggles, I know the Lord MORE because of you.

I thank you Struggles for growth. I am stronger, wiser, deeper, more empathetic, less judgmental, more patience and understanding because of you. I thank you for the woman I have become, the mother I embracing, and the wife I’m aspiring to.

Struggles, because of you I don’t take life for granted. I count my blessings. I seize the moment and embrace each memory. I see life with lenses of thankfulness and gratitude. What a blessing in disguise you are and without you constantly in my way like a mountain to climb, I would not have arrived here, with this state of mind. I would not have this perspective. I would not be the best version of me.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything (James 1: 2-4).
